Common conditions and questions.
Does FAIS lead to hip osteoarthritis?
The link back to FAIS comes down to mechanics. Every repeated instance of impingement - the compression between the femur and the socket we covered earlier - places extra stress on the same cartilage and labral tissue that hip osteoarthritis eventually erodes.
Hip morphology variations
A typical hip joint is constructed of the rounded head of the thigh bone sitting in the cup-shaped socket in the pelvis. However, in some people there may be an anatomical variant know as a cam or pincer morphology, and sometimes both.
How to diagnose FAIS
To reach a diagnosis, patients should have the appropriate symptoms of FAIS, positive clinical signs and imaging findings to corroborate the diagnosis.
What is FAIS?
Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS) is a motion and compression-related disorder of the hip involving unhealthy contact between the acetabulum and the femur.
Tendinopathy
Tendinopathy is the broad umbrella term used to describe pain and dysfunction in a tendon, regardless of the underlying pathology.
Dorsal wrist impingement
Dorsal wrist impingement (also known as dorsal capsulitis) is a condition involving irritation and inflammation of the soft tissues at the back of the wrist.
